The
newly elected Chairman of the Adamawa State Correspondents' Chapel, Ibrahim
Kado, has cautioned journalists against unethical conducts in the course of
news gathering, production and dissemination as well.
Kado of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) made the caution while addressing newsmen when the State Council of the NUJ under the chairmanship of Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan paid him a congratulatory and introductory visit at the Correspondents’ Chapel.
Mr. Kado who appreciates the NUJ State Council for finding time to visit the new leadership of the chapel, insists such a gesture will further cement the good working relationship existing in the union, calling on all aggrieved parties to join in restructuring the chapel for the betterment of all members.
The Chairman also appreciates the twenty-nine (29) members of the chapel out of thirty-four (34) who participated in the election which was supervised by the Adamawa NUJ council, however, frowns at a malicious story published in one online medium (TG NEWS) claiming that there is a splinter leadership of the group which he said was not true.
The new State Correspondents' Chapel Chairman, Ibrahim Kado, explains that what happened was in sharp contrast with the unjustified and partisan report by the said online newspaper which posited that the new executive members were selected and appointed on the basis of the personal whims of the council chairman.
Kado calls on the general public to disregard the content of the malicious publication which was done to malign the truth over falsehood.
He restates that after the successful conduct of the election, the new EXCO consist of: Ibrahim Kado of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Chairman; Golfa Francis of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) as Vice Chairman; Anslem Nuhu Kyauta of the Africa Independent Television (AIT) as Secretary; Onimisi Alao of The Nation Newspaper as Assistant Secretary; Talatu Maiwada also of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Financial Secretary; Ibrahim Abubakar of the Plus TV as Treasurer; and Joseph Adahnu of the New Telegraph as Auditor, who according to him were duly inaugurated by the chairman of Adamawa State NUJ, Mr. Ishaka Donald Dedan.
Addressing the gathering, Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan, reveals that leaders of the NUJ found it appropriate to be at the exalted office of the new Chairman of the State Correspondents’ Chapel and to officially introduce themselves to the new leadership of the group of the pen professionals.
Comrade Dedan who emphasized that the election was constitutionally held on the 19th of March, 2025, with twenty-nine (29) members of the Correspondent Chapel in attendance out of the thirty-four (34), commended them for the show of maturity, orderliness and desire for due process.
By that, the NUJ State Chairman admits that he is happy to remind Ibrahim Kado that the election was rancour free, credible and stands, asking for the sustenance of all cooperation and support that the new chairman has been given his colleagues at the chapel.
Dedan calls on Kado to open all doors of fellowship and welcome constructive criticism that will assist in moving the chapel a step ahead.
He cautions Kado against what he termed as divide-and-rule or one-man-show, which he describes as the bane of manifestation of multiple challenges in any organization.
The NUJ State Chairman vows to work with the new leadership of the chapel as it used to be for the growth and development of journalists and journalism in the state and beyond.
Other speakers at the event commended the NUJ State Council for conducting one of the most credible, free and fair election, advising those elected to keep all forms of sentiments aside and work as a group with the remaining members.
