FOMBINA ROYAL DYNASTY: Legacies and Contributions to the Evolution and Development of the Nigeria Nation since 1809

Lamido of Adamawa HRH (Dr.) Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, has inaugurated a 19-member steering committee to organise a befitting commemoration of the Fombina Royal Dynasty’s legacies and contributions to the evolution and development of the Nigeria nation since 1809.

 

A press statement from the Adamawa Emirate Council, Lamido’s Palace, Yola, revealed that during the inaugural meeting held on Saturday 22nd March, 2025 at the Council Chamber of the Lamido’s Palace, Yola, Lamido Muhammadu Barkindo observed that traditional institutions will continue to maintain its role as custodians and promoters of culture, history and heritage of the respective emirates and chiefdoms in Nigeria.

 

The Lamido disclosed that the commemoration programme was initiated by the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria in partnership with the Adamawa Emirate Council as part of its Northern Nigeria heritage series.

 

Addressing the Council, Chairman of the Steering Committee and the Grand Patron of the Royal Historians Foundation of Nigeria, who is also the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, thanked the Lamido Barkindo for the cooperation and participation in the foundation’s laudable programme to promote the rich cultural heritage of Northern Nigeria.

 

The Emir of Zazzau promised to carry out the assignment diligently and with full commitment. He said he will set up subcommittees to find the best ways and means of making the programme a success, which will include a Book Launch on the Fombina Dynasty, Lamido’s Crystal Jubilee, a Seminar on 19th Century Scholarly Works, Museum/Exhibition, Special Fada (Friday Homage), Special Jumu’a (Friday Prayer), Horse Race Competition/Kilisa, and others. 

 

Members of the Fombina Dynasty Commemoration Steering Committee include   Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli (Emir of Zazzau) as chairman; Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar (Etsu Nupe) as Co-Chairman; Malam Mustafa Aminu (Galadima Adamawa) as Vice-Chairman; and Yakubu Abdullahi Yakubu (Wakili Tarihi Adamawa) as Secretary/member.

 

Others include Abdulkadir Aminu Mbamba (Wali Adamawa) – member; Ahmed Aliyu Musdafa (Sardauna Adamawa) - member; Abubakar B. Madawaki      (Dallatu Adamawa) - member; and Ibrahim Yayaji Mijinyawa (Marafa Adamawa) – member as well.
