Adamawa State
Polytechnic, Yola, is now set to receive officials of the National Board for
Technical Education (NBTE) for the accreditation and re-accreditation of its
academic programmes.
The Acting
Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Harrison Edan Mbasumai, disclosed this when
staff of the Building Technology Department, School of Environmental Sciences,
Jambutu Campus, paid him a courtesy visit at his office in the Polytechnic's
main campus, Yola.
Dr. Mbasumai
informed his colleagues that the institution was able to invite the NBTE
following the timely intervention of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who
approved his request for financial assistance to facilitate the accreditation
process.
He explained
that several programmes of the Polytechnic had been awaiting accreditation and
re-accreditation due to inadequate funding. According to him, the situation
changed after he appealed to the state government for support, prompting the
Governor to approve and release the necessary funds to commence the exercise.
The Acting
Rector assured the visitors that the Building Technology programme is among
those scheduled for re-accreditation during the forthcoming NBTE visit.
Dr. Mbasumai
expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for the support and for his
continued commitment to addressing the numerous challenges facing the
Polytechnic.
He also
commended the staff of the Building Technology Department for their unity and
cordial working relationship, urging them to sustain the spirit of cooperation
and continue supporting one another in their academic pursuits.
The Acting
Rector noted that although he currently occupies the office of the Acting
Rector, he remains a member of the Building Technology Department, adding that he
is still under the leadership of the Head of Department and would continue to
attend departmental meetings whenever invited.
Earlier, the Head
of Department, Mr. Solomon Goro Ahmed, said staff of the Building Technology
Department paid the visit to formally congratulate Dr. Mbasumai on his
appointment as Acting Rector, reaffirm their total support, and pray for a
successful tenure.
Mr. Ahmed also
highlighted some of the challenges facing the department, including the need
for the re-accreditation of the programme, inadequate workshop equipment, and
machines that are yet to be installed.
