HONORARY CONFERMENT OF DOCTORATE OF THEOLOGY: Bishop Mamza Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Humanitarian Service, and Education

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, unity, social justice, and quality education through the various programmes of the Catholic Diocese of Yola and its Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC).

Bishop Mamza made the pledge at Adamawa State University, Mubi, where he was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Theology (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his remarkable contributions to peacebuilding, humanitarian service, and moral leadership in Adamawa State and beyond.

The honour was bestowed on him during the university’s combined convocation ceremonies, attended by eminent personalities, government officials, traditional and religious leaders, and members of the academic community - all gathered to celebrate excellence and service to humanity.

In his acceptance speech, Bishop Mamza expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university authority and the Adamawa State Government for the recognition, dedicating the award to the people of Adamawa State, particularly victims of insecurity, displacement, and poverty.

He commended the Adamawa State University for sustaining academic standards despite the challenges confronting tertiary institutions in this part of the country. The Bishop urged students to pursue their studies with integrity and to use their knowledge as instruments for positive societal transformation.

Widely regarded as a beacon of hope and unity, Bishop Mamza continues to earn admiration for his steadfast advocacy for peace, interfaith dialogue, education, and humanitarian outreach - especially his tireless efforts in supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) during and after insurgent attacks.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who happens to be the university’s visitor, congratulated the graduates for their hard work, resilience, and determination, describing their success as a symbol of hope for a better society.

 

He commended the university management, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Augustine Clement and Pro-Chancellor Professor Maxwell Gidado (SAN, OON), for repositioning the institution on the global map of academic excellence.

 

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Augustine Clement, stated that the combined convocation covered three academic sessions (2022–2025) and expressed gratitude to the state government, donor agencies, and development partners for their consistent support in transforming the university into a centre of academic excellence.

 

The event also featured the commissioning of the Abdul Samad Rabiu 500-seat capacity lecture theatre and the Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta Complex; both funded by TETFund under the 2017–2020 merged annual intervention scheme.
