Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe of the Adamawa Southern
Senatorial District had laid a petition before the Nigerian Senate during its
plenary.
The petition was brought forward on behalf of some
six personnel of the Nigerian Navy, one of whom is his constituent. The
petitioners alleged that they were wrongfully dismissed from service.
Senator Yaroe informed his colleagues that the
petitioners are appealing to the Nigerian Senate to review their case with a
view to rectifying the alleged injustice.
In the course of the presentation, the Senator
formally requested and received permission from the Senate President to lay the
document for Senate's consideration and necessary action.
The move by Senator Yaroe underscores the
commitment of the legislature to its oversight functions, and its role as a
vital channel for citizens seeking redress from public institutions.
