ZONAL SURVEYOR: COMMISSIONING NUMAN ZONAL OFFICE Surveyor Pwavidon Simon Commends Governor Fintiri for Priotizing Mapping, Surveying


At the commissioning of Zonal Surveyor Office in Numan, the Surveyor General of Adamawa State, Surveyor Pwavidon Simon, has revealed that the essence of having zonal offices is to make sure that Governments’ business under the mandate and function of the Office of the Surveyor General is made to be barest level of the citizenry, wherever they are found in every single square meter of the landscape of Adamawa State covering over 37,000 square kilometres.

‘’Whether from Madagali down to Mayo-Lope, whether it is from Gorotero or Bobini – as far as Gurin, we are going to map this state, we are going to make available every distribution of physical inventory by way of maps. No wonder I have reason to say in my press briefing that we are going to enhance what is called ‘Spatially Enable Governance.’ Today as we are gathered here to unveil the new zonal office to take care of expectations and governance in the area of land administration and management particularly covering Numan, Lamurde and Demsa, it is equally a step to meet up with the recent declaration that all Local Governments in Nigeria must have offices of Directors of Survey.’’

 Simon noted that beyond the issue of giving survey plans for the purpose of processing land title or document to enable people access facility and to ensure security of tenor, the office is working in so many directions; which calls for the selection of certain Ministries, Departments and Agencies that have direct bearing on the socio-economic well-being of the citizenry.

‘’Now is a ratification by the Federal Executive Council, and it will interest this distinguish gathering to know that already His Excellency, The Performing Governor of Adamawa State have already approved that this memorandum should be given life and be brought to effect. Meaning, of the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State, we are trusting God that every local government will have a Director of Survey. They are going to observe on behalf of His Excellency on the instructions of the State Surveyor General on the business of measurement in other to ascertain where lies were, when, and how – that is why we have a zonal surveyor.’’

 Innocent Koto who is the Executive Chairman of Numan Local Government, was represented at the occasion by his vice, Maimuna Bariki, who commended the Adamawa State Surveyor General for all that he has been doing for the state, assuring that they must accord maximum support and cooperation to the Numan Zonal Surveyor to enable him succeed and deliver the mission and vision of the zonal office.

‘’We are here to appreciate you all for bringing this development close to local government, it is a plus for us. On behalf of my chairman, I want to solicit for more unity, cohesion and understanding so that we work hand-in-hand with the community at the local government level. Again, I want to appreciate you for bringing the office close to the local government, I want to appreciate all members of the committee that made this thing to be a success. I appreciate you all.’’

 In his address of welcome, Vathea Danladi who is the Numan Zonal Surveyor, appreciated Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the State Surveyor General for their efforts in addressing certain challenges related to mapping and surveying they encounter in the course of exercising their day-to-day activities, assuring that the office will solve most, if not all land challenges in the area.

‘’Today, will indeed be a remarkable day in the history of the office of the Surveyor General Adamawa State; as we all witness the opening of this office accommodation of Numan zonal office which comprises of Lamurde, Demsa and Numan local governments respectively. Since my reporting to duty as zonal surveyor in 2013, our major challenge is the lack of office accommodation which to some extent draws back or hinders productivity.’’

 District Head of Numan Chiefdom, Chief Medan Tusai, also commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for relocating the office of the State Surveyor General to his office for further understanding of what is happening to lands in terms of socio-economic, socio-security, growth and development.

‘’The Surveyor General and other lieutenants that I cannot technically call their names, thank you for emulating your father. It has been said, a good child emulates his father. The way and manner you relate with the state Governor indicates you have a father who trains you on due process; and that you follow the right path and the principle of right and wrong in executing all your plans.’’

 Not long from now, Surveyor Pwavidon Simon’s office as the Surveyor General, Adamawa State has been relocated to the office of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to ensure coordination and control of all activities of the office which has diverse relationships to Ministries, Departments, Agencies and the general public as well.
