President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly
condemned the recent spate of violence in Plateau State that left over 40
people dead, describing it as a tragic and unacceptable loss of life.
The President expressed deep sorrow over the
bloodshed and extended condolences to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the state
government, and the people of Plateau.
In a statement, President Tinubu called on
Governor Mutfwang to summon the political will necessary to resolve the
underlying communal tensions that have fuelled the violence for over two
decades, stressing the need to put an end to the recurring cycle of retaliatory
attacks.
Emphasising the importance of peace and unity
beyond ethnic and religious divides, President Tinubu urged community,
spiritual, and political leaders to work together to heal longstanding
divisions, noting that the ongoing violence rooted in misunderstandings between
different groups must cease.
He further directed security agencies to
investigate the attacks thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice,
adding that Government cannot allow such devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks
to continue.
While acknowledging the role of security
operations, President Tinubu emphasized that true peace would only come through
dialogue, reconciliation, and political commitment at all levels.
President Tinubu assured that the Federal
Government will continue to support Plateau State in promoting dialogue, social
cohesion, and accountability, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a
peaceful and united Nigeria.
